easy wood projects
Today I drilled the holes for the legs on my shavehorse. I used a similar method to what I learned in Peter Galberts Continuous Arm Windsor Chair making class. I used this method to drill holes in the seat of my Windsor chair that also have compound angles. The angles to drill for the shavehorse were 15 degrees or 105 total. I used a couple of mirror jigs I set up and a bevel and protractor. You can also make a larger bevel gauge from wood that would be a help. Peter Galbert has a helpful video posted to Fine Woodworking that will explain a lot of what Im doing in these pictures (Peter Galbert Video).
For the mirror jigs you need a couple of 6 or 7 inch pieces of wood.
You need to cut a groove length wise at about 65 degrees that will hold the mirror.

A back saw and a file worked for me. As long as the mirror fits and is stable.
Mark the mirror with a china pencil.
Cut out the mirror.
Mirror jig done. (How to make this jig.)
Set up your bevel gauges and protractor parallel to the mirrors and parallel to the sight lines.
Set your drill to the compound angle. I had help from my assistant today because one of the angle was hard to see from where I was drilling.
If an assistant does help you have them line up with a sight line.
Holes drilled.
Second set done.
