The next steps will be to define this spoon or ladle. I shaved off the bark and drew a spoon on my blank. I read in many places that the spoon will need to be redrawn and in some cases re-designed and in others the blank will not make the cut and end up as fire wood. So far after removing the bark and pith I do not have much of a crook left. I may end up with a spoon instead of a ladle? Who knows Im just following the wood. I would suggest using a branch that is larger for a ladle experiment. This one is about three inches. Probably 4 at the very least to 5 inch diameter preferable. Also there is a twist where the bowl will be and this will make for an interesting spoon or ladle. it could be a good slotted type spoon for poached eggs or raviolis or gnocchi. Only time will tell.
Removing bark, this axe needs a different sharpening for this type of work. A little less steep of an angle on the blade and a longer bevel. Currently it is more a tuned for chopping.
