I arrived at this class not knowing what to expect except that it said in the description that we would be working hard and that the end product was a picture of this beautiful Windsor Chair. The first topic was green wood. We were taught about how we would use certain types of wood to make the chair along with all the whys and hows. After the wood lecture we chose a shaving horse and were taught how to shave rectangular white oak blanks that would become our spindles for this chair.

The wood for these chairs was flow in from Sterling Massachusetts. The legs and under carriage were maple and already turned. The spindles and arms were white oak and the seats were yellow pine.

Room where we used the save horses to shave our spindles and arms.

Some of the chair making tools we used in class.
