Reading this book was a pleasure and an adventure in woodworking. True it was written about cabinet making and furniture making in the 17th century but one thing that still rings true for a small shop or craftsman turning out work is quality and craftsmanship. There is also the ageless concept of what it is like to start a new job, a new career a new passion. Thomas the apprentice put his very heart in soul into his work. His rewards are the fruits of his labor, praise and better more skilled work he gets to do. Hey!, beats sweeping the floors another year. There are other apprentices that may or may not have his heart felt compassion for woodworking and it shows. Im not going to ruin the story for you. You will just have to get this book and read it for yourself. 

We may think these days are gone but wrong. Even in a sedentary job you may have today if you dont have the passion for your work it will eventually show. Sometimes we wonder why we dont do well at a job or task well the answer may be is this job something Im passionate about? or am I just here to make a living?

In my travels last year I ran into a woodworker taking a class with me that when I looked at his tool tote it was the actual packing box that Thomas makes and that is a project in this book! This started a conversation and we compared notes about The Schwarz and books.

The projects in this book are worthwhile to make. It may be better to read through the book once and then on your second time through follow along making the projects. That way you are actually walking in Thoms shoes.

All in all a great book to read weather your a historian or even just starting in wood working. If you are a historian youll get a taste of Old England. If you are a woodworker you will travel back in time to when things were done differently. 

The main thing is to have fun and enjoy the trip.
