easy wood projects - Shavehorse Part 8

easy wood projects

easy wood projects

I received a chair making reamer from Peter Galbert. It is a well thought out and well made tool. Perfect for the job its intended to do. I started to use it to ream out the holes in my shave-horse and it worked nicely. Soon a 3 inch deep hole was reamed with the appropriate taper. It worked much smoother than the reamer I created and I will make another version of my reamer using what I have learned from using this tool. A couple of main differences were the tight tolerances this was made to, the wood used looks to be riven and uses extremely straight grain, the blade cuts end grain so well and smooth that it barley ever catches or gouges the hole and there are reliefs cut into the reamer to compensate for chip build up. If you are interested in one you can order it from the following link Chair Making tools (reamer) offered by Peter Galbert . I have to warn you you will be put on a waiting list for probably sometime but it is worth the wait.

Now all the tapered mortises are complete and the tapered tenons fit well. Next topic will be making locking wedged tenons for these legs. You can use this project as a chair making learning tool and try out different chair making techniques. Youre going to be spending a lot of time shaving wood so why not make it comfortable to sit on.
