We worked on the spindles for quite some time. If working wood on a shave horse with a draw knife is a new experience for you the learning curve is about medium but in a class like this the learning curve can be steep for some people. The only suggestion I have is if possible obtain a draw knife before hand, get it sharp and play around with it on some green wood preferably on a shave horse. I did not have a shave horse at the time and not a lot of experience so I learned as I went along and the class was taught as if you had no or very little experience chair making. I noticed even the more experienced people re- learning there draw knifing shave horse techniques. There were a few experience chair makers that made this look like childs play but only 2 or 3 people. So the class was paced for everyone and we were assigned partners to work with that were more experienced than us but still we all learned a lot from this class. Pete is an experienced chair maker and teacher so the class flowed day to day with the final out come in mind.

Eventually the spindles were finished off using a spoke shave. There were several steps before during and after getting to this point. One of which the ends or tenons were brought to a certain size in order to fit the mortises in the spindle deck. His book goes into detail but unless you take the class its hard to get a feel for.
