At this time the spindles are pretty much shaped and finished. They are round and have the correct size tenons. They have been sitting in the kiln and are dry. Once they are placed into the mortises and wedged they will expand and form a locking joint. You could build this chair without glue but glue was used for added insurance. We used hide glue warmed up so it was runny but not so it was boiling. It came pre mixed the brand was Old Brown Glue. There is a shelf life on this stuff because it is made of animal parts. the chair was pre assembled and the tops of the spindles were marked numbered and cut to size.. They were then glued up and placed into the mortises. The arm was installed and adjusted. The tops of the spindle tenons were split with a chisel and wedges were tapped into place. After the glue was dried the spindles were cut flush with the arm and then we could fair the continuous arm and start the final finishing process.
